Garret J. Dykhouse, 90, Of Wyckoff

WYCKOFF, N.J. -- Garret J. Dykhouse, of Wyckoff,  died Nov. 2. He was 90.

The son of the late Henry and Anna Dykhouse, he was born Aug. 24, 1926, in Midland Park.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he spent his entire career as an underwriter and executive for Royal Insurance Company in New York before retiring in 1988. 

Dykhouse was a dedicated volunteer in numerous national and community organizations, including service as a board member and chairman of the Christian Health Care Center and Christian Health Care Center Foundation in Wyckoff, a board member of the Eastern Christian School Association and the Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat, a Deacon and Elder at Faith Community Church in Wyckoff, a member of the National Disaster Response Team of the American Red Cross and a member of the Wyckoff Volunteer Ambulance Corps, which he served as captain.

He is survived by his wife, Raeann; three sons and their wives, David and Barbara, Larry and Carole and Tom and Linda; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his sister, Jessie Vogel.

The family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Faith Community Church, 530 Sicomac Ave., Wyckoff. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Eastern Christian School or the Christian Health Care Center.
